Hulk will meet referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima again in the classic between Atlético and América, this Saturday (24/2), at 4:30 pm, at Independência, for the seventh round of the Campeonato Mineiro. The professional was at the center of a controversy involving the Galo striker in the last classic between the teams.
In November 2023, the black and white team drew 1-1 with Coelho at Parque do Sabiá, in Uberlândia. Hulk was sent off in extra time in the second half, for complaints and gestures of robbery.
As he left the field, the number 7 vented his feelings and questioned his permanence in Brazilian football. “It’s a lack of respect. I’m tired! I’m tired of Brazil. One more month here, I’m leaving!”
However, on the same night, Hulk apologized for the expulsion and said that the statement was in the “heat of the moment”.
Hulk agrees with the referee
In a press conference this Friday (23/2), Hulk responded about the reunion with Rodrigo José. He avoided a new controversy and admitted his mistake in the last classic against América.
“It was good of you to bring up this subject. I don’t worry at any point. These are past things. It’s like that in life, not just in our profession, in everyday life too. We make mistakes and try to fix our mistakes. I was sent off in that game because I deserved it, I made a gesture that is not legal and cannot be done, so it was a fair expulsion”, he said.
The striker also once again regretted his post-game statements and assured that he does not hold any grudges for this Saturday’s match.
“Later, in the interview, being hot-headed, I ended up saying things I shouldn’t have. He did his job well, he kicked me out because I deserved it. It’s water under the bridge, I have to focus so that this doesn’t happen again. Tomorrow is a new page, where Atlético, América, the referee and I will be present”, concluded the player.
