Even though Hulk Hogan is no longer an active wrestler, but that doesn’t mean the Immortal One isn’t always a television hot commodity.
The Hall of Famer opened up about this topic during a recent interview with Theo Von on This Last Weekend, where he reveals he’s had offers for movies, shows, and a ton of reality TV. However, Hulkster says he refuses all offers.
I turned down a bunch of movies. A whole bunch of TV shows. I get calls all the time. With the content I have now with the bar, restaurant, retail store, my son is here, my daughter is here, my new baby [sa fiancé Sky Daily] has three children. There are all kinds of content. Everyone hits me all the time for doing reality TV shows. I stopped everything.
Hogan later says that WWE still offers him work from time to time, but depending on the weather, he will decline.
Even with appearances and autograph sessions, I use Prince Marketing when I do things. Sometimes WWE calls me to do stuff. I’m still working for them, but I’m kind of going to pass that on, or I’m going to. It depends on the weather.
News broke this week that Hogan is engaged to his new girlfriend, Sky Daily.
Still in this same interview for The Weekend After, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan spoke with Theo Von about how he managed to avoid a lawsuit with Marvel so he could use his name ‘Hulk’. Hulk Hogan tells us:
“What does Hulk Hogan mean? Ivan Putski for Polish Americans, Bruno Sammartino for Italian Americans, Jay Strongbow for Native Americans and Hulk Hogan for Irish Americans. Vince McMahon gave me that name. Vince Senior dies, Vince McMahon Jr takes over as Hulk Hogan takes off. We get a call from Marvel Comics saying we are infringing their trademark and they are going to sue and sue us. We left the name to them and I only had to pay them a tenth of 1%. 2005 is over, I can’t use the Hulk Hogan name anymore, and I’m on top in 2005.”
The Immortal then explains that they were able to buy the name back at a much cheaper price because WWE and Marvel were at odds:
“I went to see my lawyer to tell him: I don’t care about the case you are doing right now, you are going to do this case because I need the name. What happened was I got a one year extension and had to pay them 30% of everything I earned. Movies, TV wrestling, they got 30% of everything, but if they decided to sell the name, I had to be the first one on it. All of a sudden, Marvel Comics gets into a fight with WWE over intellectual properties and the fact that they can’t rerun old Hulk Hogan matches. Marvel Comics lost. They owe Vince McMahon $35 million. They made a huge mistake and they said: Instead of paying $35 million, why not give you the name Hulk Hogan? I heard about it and I said to them: You screwed up! I don’t have to pay $35 million for the name, you have to sell it to me for $750,000. I redeemed the name. Vince wanted to buy the name from me but I refused and I have owned everything ever since. »
