This is a message of support and encouragement that singer Hugues Aufray sent from his Facebook page to the players of Stade Rochelais: “Hail to the people of Rochelle, hail to President Vincent Merling! I come to you today that I am wholeheartedly with you in this fabulous match that you will deliver shortly”
Facing the camera, the 92-year-old singer explains that he knows that each La Rochelle pre-match warm-up is done to the sound of his famous song Santiano and that even if he has never played rugby he was born in the country of this sport, in Béarn, in the South-West.
You are an example for French rugby.
However, he ends by pointing out that one of his great-granddaughters is Irish and therefore asks the Rochelais not to mistreat the Irish too much.
