The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López- Gatell, assured that in the IX North American Leaders Summit, in which he will participate this Thursday, in terms of health, it will seek to improve the mechanisms between Mexico, United States and Canada for the production and distribution of vaccines against Covid-19 and attention to supply chains for health supplies.
“At this North American Leaders Summit what we are going to have is the expression of the political will on issues relevant to the regionIn the specific case of health, the agenda is broad, includes information exchange mechanisms, mechanisms to collaborate in the vaccine production and distribution, attention to the supply chains of health supplies, ”said the official.
In an interview, prior to boarding a commercial flight to Washington DC, López-Gatell said that the objective is to make a synergy between the three countries to achieve better responsiveness in a supportive and cooperative environment.
The Health official explained that in its past editions the Summit has maintained three fundamental themes: the security of the region, economic development and health.
He said that the H1N1 influenza pandemic gave very important lessons on how to cope in the region and make it safe in health terms.
“Today with the Covid pandemic, we have the opportunity to incorporate some of the preliminary lessons from the pandemic response, what threats to public health of these dimensions mean and how we can have safer, more consistent systems and better in their response capacity ”.
