Hugo de Jonge nominated as acting cdk of Zeeland

Former minister Hugo de Jonge (CDA) is nominated as acting King’s Commissioner of Zeeland. This was announced by Minister of the Interior Judith Uitermark after a meeting of the Provincial States, where the succession of outgoing commissioner Han Polman was discussed.

No advance payment

Uitermark announces De Jonge’s candidacy in the Council of Ministers on Friday. That same day, she makes the nomination for the official appointment to the King. Uitermark says that De Jonge’s nomination should not be seen as ‘an advance’ on the definitive appointment of the former minister as King’s Commissioner in Zeeland.

‘Huge honor’

De Jonge’s first day of work is September 16. The native of Zeeland says he is happy with his intended appointment. ‘It is a huge honor. It is incredibly wonderful to be able to work together on that beautiful province where I was born and raised. I will work with heart and soul for Zeeland and the people of Zeeland.’

Procedure

It is not known how long De Jonge will remain as acting commissioner. During his acting commissionership, the procedure will be followed that must lead to the appointment of a new CdK. This begins with the drawing up of a profile sketch by the States of Zeeland. After the applications, the States nominate one candidate for appointment to the minister. The king appoints the King’s Commissioner for a period of six years. The CdK can then be reappointed for another six years.

Polman

Polman has been the King’s Commissioner in Zeeland since 2013. Before that, he was mayor of Bergen op Zoom. The D66 member announced in mid-June that he was leaving. Polman will start working as a State Councillor in the Advisory Division of the Council of State from 15 September.
