Huge solar storm could shut down the internet for months in 2024 — Blog Edenevaldo Alves

Professor Peter Becker, from George Mason University (Virginia, USA), responsible for developing warning systems about solar activities that could harm the world’s technology, pointed out what he considers an “internet apocalypse” in 2024. According to him, a huge solar storm could affect the entire planet.

“The Internet came of age at a time when the sun was relatively calm and is now entering a more active time,” he said, according to Insider Paper.

According to the scientist, this is the first time in history that there has been a convergence between the increase in solar activity and human dependence on the internet. According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, Solar Cycle 25 – which predicts a solar superstorm – is expected to occur ahead of schedule.

Initially, studies showed that solar activity of this size would only occur in July 2025. But Becker suggests that the most intense phase of the storm will be next year, according to the newspaper.

Initially, the scientist says that the coronal mass ejection from the Sun as a result of the solar storm could head to another direction in space. If it comes to Earth, however, “it gives us about 18 to 24 hours of warning before these particles arrive” at the planet and “start messing with the magnetic field.”

In addition to the internet, the electrical grid, fiber optic cables, navigation systems such as GPS, satellites and communications equipment can suffer damage that should not be repaired for months.
