The Formula 1 competition is currently located in Brazil, where the third and last weekend of the new format is running this season. There was only one training session on Friday, followed by a qualification that did not determine the pole position holder for Sunday’s Grand Prix, but only for today’s sprint races, which will be at 20:30 our time.
Lewis Hamilton has already used his second engine above the permitted number, for which he will serve a penalty plus 5 places at the start on Sunday. He flew with the new engine like a rocket and literally beat the competition in qualifying, when the second Verstappen was almost half a second behind, which is a huge difference on the short Brazilian circuit. In addition, Brazil was expected to be more comfortable with the red bull.
Sovereign Hamilton won the qualification with an illegal rear wing
However, after qualifying, the internet and F1 social networks literally exploded when it turned out that Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing did not meet the prescribed limits and was illegal, for which he was threatened with disqualification from qualifying. The problem was that the DRS system opened more than the maximum allowed 85 millimeters when activated, which could give the Mercedes pilot a speed advantage on the straights.
The situation was complicated when a video appeared on the Internet in which he sees Max Verstappen as his hand, first measuring the slit in the back wing of his monopost and then the one on Hamilton’s monopost at a time when the rules of parc fermé are already in force, ie when the handling of monoposts is largely prohibited and allowed only to authorized persons to perform the prescribed acts.

Complications for Verstappen
According to Red Bull teammate Helmut Mark Mercedes, he used this to his advantage and tried to accuse Verstappen that at that moment he could have damaged the disputed rear wing by failing to meet the prescribed limit. Despite the fact that Mercedes representatives spent almost an hour with the commissioners yesterday after the qualification, the verdict did not fall.

Today, the commissioners first summoned Verstappen, who took a few minutes to visit the commissioners, and then again Mercedes representatives, who spent almost an hour with the commissioners again. The commissioners’ verdict did not fall even before the start of the second practice, and the silence of the race leaders only encouraged various speculations. In the end, the commissioners punished both pilots.
Astronomical fine and uncompromising disqualification
Max Verstappen defended himself by saying that touching competing monopolies even during parc fermé is nothing out of the ordinary and is commonplace and has never been punished. However, it was not valid for him and the commissioners fined him a really unusually high fine of 50,000 euros. For comparison, for exceeding the maximum speed in the pit lane last weekend, they fined a thousand euros.

But he doesn’t have to worry about that, because the commissioners disqualified Lewis Hamilton from qualifying a few minutes later, which means that he will start last sprint or pit lane in today’s sprint races, depending on whether Mercedes has the rear wing of the same specification that would comply with the rules.
It’s a huge pity for Mercedes and Lewis, because he would most likely win the qualification even if his rear wing met the limit. In addition, tomorrow’s punishment plus 5 seats at the start for changing the engine still applies to the Mercedes unit. These two penalties can significantly tilt the scales in the fight for the title of champion on the side of the Dutch pilot.

We can thus expect that today’s sprint will not be just a soulless circling the track, as we witnessed in Monza or Silverstone.
