According to the news of the Science Alert website, the giant asteroid, which is classified as a “Potentially Dangerous Asteroid” due to its regular close passes, will arrive at its closest location to Earth on January 18 at 21:51 according to universal time.
The asteroid, which will pass 1.93 million kilometers from the Earth, will have a safe opening, so there will be no risk of collision.
This close visit will allow astronomers to further study the stony, S-type asteroid that belongs to the Apollo asteroid group.
SHALL LOOK LIKE A STAR
The asteroid will travel at approximately 19.56 kilometers per second, which means it will appear like a star in the night sky.
Known as asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1, this celestial body was discovered in 1994 by astronomer Robert McNaught at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia.
The last close pass of the giant asteroid to Earth occurred 89 years ago on January 17, 1933. The next approach is expected on January 18, 2105.
