Following the publication of a press material on the fires in the Chernobyl region, for the correct information of the public opinion, the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests and the National Meteorological Administration, makes the following clarifications:
The Romanian authorities are monitoring, together with the European ones, the evolution of the effects produced by the fires in the forests near the Chernobyl area.
As a result of the evaluations of the European specialists, the air circulation indicates the fact that the Romanian territory will not be affected.
At the same time, the European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) – Monitoring for Environmental Radioactivity, which is constantly monitoring indicators at European level, confirmed tonight that radioactivity values remain within normal limits throughout Europe, including Ukraine.
The specialists of the National Meteorological Administration and those of the National Agency for Environmental Protection are constantly monitoring the evolutions and will present the results of the evaluations carried out at European level.
