OCEAN CITY, Maryland – A massive explosion of fireworks rocked the beach in Ocean City, Maryland on Sunday morning and was caught on video.
The series of explosions startled the bathers and sent some running for cover.
Police say the fireworks went off as employees prepared for the evening fireworks display.
Firefighters were called to a section of the beach near Dorchester Street after reports of a burning vehicle around 10:30 a.m. What they found instead was that fireworks were unintentionally detonated, firefighters said.
They say an employee of the fireworks company suffered minor injuries but refused to be taken to a hospital. Police say no one else was injured.
City firefighters are investigating to determine what caused the fireworks to detonate.
