The five major sponsoring countries and the organizing country, Sweden, will appear in May’s Eurovision already in the semi-finals. In previous years, only small clips of the performances of these countries have been seen in the semi-finals, i.e. the performances have only been heard in their entirety in the finals.

It has been the practice in Viusi for twenty years that the biggest sponsoring countries Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, France and the host country get directly to the finals. There will be no changes to this this year, i.e. the countries will make it to the final anyway and cannot be voted for in the semi-final stage.

– We believe that the change will give the Big Five countries and the host country a fairer chance to succeed in the finals, when they have already appeared in the semifinals. It’s also a win for viewers as they get to see all of this year’s shows before the finale, Wise executive producer Ebba Adielsson says in the Eurovision announcement.

These six countries have previously been considered to suffer from appearing only once. This is not the case this year, but all countries will perform twice.

There will also be changes to the voting, which this year opens in the final moments before the first artist’s performance. In previous years, voting has only started after all presentations have been seen and heard.

The EBU also announced later on Monday that Sweden’s five-piece representatives Marcus & Martinus will perform first in the final. In general, the first performance place has been considered bad, because the voting has only started after the last song, when the songs from the beginning are not so fresh in the memory.
