During the night of Friday 6 to Saturday 7 August, during a control at the Montauban Nord tollgate, the agents of the customs brigade of Montauban stopped a van. The two passengers say they come from Toulouse and go to Paris for a move.
In the van, in reality, neither furniture nor boxes of books or clothes, but many boxes containing Andorran and Spanish cigarettes.
Nearly 500 kilos of cigarettes
Customs officers have identified precisely 2,390 cartridges, i.e. 478 kg of cigarettes as well as nearly ten kilos of Andorran roll-your-own tobacco, the equivalent of more than 300 packs of 30 grams. The goods and the vehicle were immediately seized. The two people were placed in customs detention and then handed over to the Montauban police station. A third person was placed under judicial supervision.
The market value in France of such a cargo would exceed 200,000 euros. This procedure was the subject of an opening of judicial information, the investigations are still in progress.
