It is currently one of the busiest streets in Southeast, but in the future the Hondsrugweg (between the Arena area and Ikea) will change into a city park. To reinforce that transition, a work of art by Streetart Frankey was placed today: a huge paper stick with three real cars impaled on it.

‘I think it’s great that I was able to make something for this part of the city. The Hondsrugweg was once the main thoroughfare in the district. Now cars will disappear completely in this place. I wanted to make something that links to the past, ‘says the artist about his own work.

“We don’t need those cars anymore, so they can all be used up!”

The area around the spike will be transformed in the coming years from a district with mainly offices, to a district with residential towers, modern workplaces, catering establishments and thus the Hondsrug Park. Street art Frankey was asked by the Hondsrugpark Foundation to create the artwork. Frankey: ‘The cars are three old-timers so that you get even more the effect of: did you remember when cars drove here a long time ago? We no longer need them now, so they can all eat up! ‘
The statue was unveiled today by alderman Laurens Ivens (Housing) and district councilor Dirk de Jager. Streetart Frankey posted earlier the large Lego statue of André Hazes on the Dam.
