Huge Announcement: After 25 years, the legendary GoldenEye returns in a revamped form

After 25 years, the cult action game returns, which for many was the first console FPS on the Nintendo 64.

The Nintendo Direct that took place today brought a nice surprise, but not an unexpected surprise. During the event, along with Rare, it was announced that James Bond’s legendary FPS GoldenEye is returning in a revamped form.

Although GoldenEye 007 is a game adaptation of Pierce Brosnan’s brilliant first Bond movie, it brought the story of the British secret agent full of betrayal to consoles in a fantastic way. For many, for example, this was their first console FPS, which isn’t surprising, as up until then the console’s interior view, but rather control, was more boring than fun. GoldenEye changed that too, and even in multiplayer shooting, it was able to show something no one had ever done before.

GoldenEye, re-released after 25 years, theoretically comes with improved graphics and multiplayer support, but the bad news is that as a classic Nintendo 64 title, only Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to play it on Switch. But there is another solution;

The legendary James Bond game will appear not only on the Japanese console, but also on the Xbox, and also directly in the Game Pass offer, in 4K resolution.

Again, it’s bad news that you won’t have an online multiplayer mode on Xbox, which will only be the privilege of Switch owners, on the Redmond machine we will only have the original split-screen fun. In return, the campaign will not only be able to be played in 4K, but we will also be able to unlock achievements during playthrough.

None of this surprised us, because there had already been several rumors about the return of GoldenEye, which Microsoft may have been preparing for since the Xbox 360 era. Nothing came of it due to various licensing rights, but in the in the last 1-2 years, rumors and internal leaks have regained vigor. But even the timing of the announcement can’t be a coincidence, as James Bond celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and Nintendo’s event was only obvious because the game was released for the Nintendo 64 25 years ago.
