Huesca
In what is the countdown to the start of the San Lorenzo festivities, and immersed in the heart of Prelaurentis, this Monday comes one of the most anticipated events, and which attracts a large audience in the courtyard of the Pío XII School. There, the Huesca dancers will perform their general rehearsal, with the Huesca music band.
And this year with many changes, since there is a generational change, and there are four new dancers who come to the Association, with the novelty that, for the first time in history, there will be two women dancing. They are Ibón Cejalvo and Cristina Esperanza, who replace their uncle Daniel Cejalvo and his father, Jesús Esperanza, respectively.
In addition, Santos Santolaria gives the position to his son Santos, and Fernando Esperanza, to his son Fernando.
This will be, then, the first time this year in which the people of Huesca, although they are not dressed in their typical costumes, will be able to see the evolution of the Huesca dancers with all these novelties, including those of the two women.
It will be the last of the rehearsals, which this year have been more numerous, so that everything is perfectly learned and coordinated for San Lorenzo. There was a first rehearsal in April, with fewer dancers than usual to catch the rhythm, and later there have been up to five, longer ones, and now with everyone.
On the 10th, the festivity of San Lorenzo, it will be the moment of truth, at 8:30 in the morning, in front of the doors of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, when the dancers of Huesca will interpret the dances of the Swords, New Palos, Palos Viejos, Las Cintas and Degollau.
It was recently indicated that the arrival of the two women, Ibón and Cristina, does not mean any change. The clothing they will wear will be the same as their male companions. This is what was collected in one of the last assemblies, where a kind of “Dress Regulations” was drawn up.
