The Huércal-Overa City Council has proceeded to sealing of the waste dump located in the area of La Parata, close to the urban center, which was out of service after a period of continuous exploitation of more than 15 years, since it was put into service for citizens in 2001 by the Consistory. With the sealing, the negative environmental impacts generated are eliminated, also mitigating the visual impact by integrating the landfill into its surroundings.

From City Hall more than 860,000 euros have been invested in the works necessary for the sealing and reforestation of the land, favoring the establishment of protective natural vegetation and creating an adequate initial environment for the progressive colonization of the surface by species adapted to its conditions.

Prior to the work of establishing the vegetation, a proper preparation of the land, with fertilization and organic fertilizer of them to improve the characteristics. And subsequently, hydroseeding of the surface has been carried out, which allows the area to be reforested with species adapted to the biophysical and climatic conditions of the area.

The mayor of Huércal-overa, Domingo Fernández, recalled that the landfill it was closed in 2015 with the opening of the Clean Point and since then they have been working on the necessary project for the sealing and regeneration of the land.

It should be remembered that the municipality of Huércal-Overa has an Olivio Point, located in the municipal warehouse, next to the cemetery. The clean point is a controlled waste collection area, in which wood and furniture, rubble (only individuals), pruning and gardening remains and bulky packaging can be deposited. As well as special waste: used household oils, batteries, photography and radiography material, aerosols, batteries, electrical and electronic material, paints, solvents, fluorescents and waste electrical equipment.

The Clean point hours are from Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 14:30 and from 15:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00. There is also an area for selective collection with specific containers for glass, paper and cardboard, packaging and textiles.

In addition, Huércal-Overa has a privately controlled and managed waste dump located next to the Industrial Estate. Thus, the neighbors have the necessary means to act responsibly in the deposit of the different waste.
