WHAT HAPPENED? PSSI general chairman Erick Thohir revealed that players who are descendants of Justin Hubner have expressed their commitment to become naturalized Indonesian citizens after going back and forth. This confirmation was obtained after he established communication with the English Premier League club player Wolverhampton Wanderers.
WHAT IS SAYING? Erick conveyed this assurance via his personal social media account. “After further discussions, the naturalization process for the Dutch-born player who has Indonesian ancestry, Justin Quincy Hubner, has entered the final stage,” wrote Erick via his account. Instagram.

“Next, we just have to wait for the President’s decision (Keppres) and the taking of the oath of citizenship for the Republic of Indonesia. “Hopefully all stages will run smoothly to advance Indonesian football.”
BIG PICTURE: Hubner should have been naturalized along with Ivar Jenner and Rafael Struick in May 2023 for the purposes of the 2023 U-20 World Cup which was ultimately canceled in Indonesia. However, the process was left hanging after Hubner was called up to attend the Netherlands U-21 training camp in March. PSSI, through executive committee member (Exco) Arya Sinulingga, issued a statement canceling the naturalization.

WHAT IS NEXT? PSSI is currently working to speed up the final two stages of Hubner’s naturalization process. The 20 year old player is expected to officially become an Indonesian citizen before the end of this year so he can be included in the Garuda squad for the 2023 Asian Cup finals in January next year.
