Hubert von Goisern is known as Austria’s figurehead for new folk music with a global flair all over the world. He has now written his first novel under his real name Hubert Achleitner: “fleeting”. And a new album, “Times and Signs”, will also be available from summer. A conversation about leaving, staying, sitting and getting started.
Have you got used to the new normal?
Hubert von Goisern: I find it very exhausting not being able to face each other. I don’t want to get used to it. But it is how it is. Like the weather. A state that passes.
Do you find anything good about the situation?
It was positive for me that I could work undisturbed. I had all the recordings for the new album in the box. My sound engineer and I spent weeks together in post production. I really enjoyed it. You could hear the birds singing, the sky was clear and clean. And people were very respectful. It was interesting that people whom I have experienced as resentful and grumpy in the past were very friendly during this time. And those who were always in a good mood were rather kinky. So you can see the other end of the sausage.
And you wrote. Not your first book, but your first novel. How did that happen?
