If people do not comply better with the current corona measures and the number of infections does not fall fundamentally this week, we will head for a lockdown that will last all winter. That is what chairman of the Security Council Hubert Bruls said in the television program on Sunday Buitenhof.

Bruls says he is disappointed in how poorly the current measures are being observed. He indicated that he did believe in the strategy “not to sit on everything but close again. But if you look at the latest compliance figures, I’m disappointed about that too.”
According to Bruls, this week will be very exciting. “If that does not fundamentally change in combination with a real decrease in the number of infections, then we are heading for a lockdown that will really last all winter.”

Marion Koopmans, professor of virology at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam from Steyl, was also present on Sunday Buitenhof. According to her, the current corona measures have no effect for the time being. “It is clear that the number of new corona cases must decrease, but we are not yet seeing that turnaround. The effects of those measures should certainly become visible this week,” says Koopmans. “It’s clear that if it continues along this line, healthcare will not be able to handle it,” she continues. According to the virologist, complete lockdowns would not be necessary next winter if the current measures are observed.
