Hubble Telescope Finds Earendel, Farthest and Oldest Star

MEDIA PAKUAN – Space Telescope Hubble again made an unintentional surprise, which showed some galaxy the oldest and most distant single star ever recorded.

According to scientists, the star has existed for a billion years after the Big Bang explosion.

Scientists named the star Earendel, which means morning star or sunrise in Old English.

NASA says the star is estimated to have 50 times the mass of the sun and is millions of times brighter.

However, researchers have not been able to ascertain the details of Earendel such as mass, brightness, temperature, and type.

Planned further observations will be made with the James Webb Space Telescope. For scientists the old star offers an opportunity to learn more about the past.

Its great distance takes 12.9 billion years for its light to reach the earth. NASA also said that in 2018, Hubble have observed the oldest and most distant single star, Icarus, takes 9 billion years to reach Earth.

The research team hopes that Earendel is a single star, not part of a stellar group.

Earendel can be studied because its light is independent, and allows scientists to compare it to the stars galaxy di Bima Sakti.***- – –
