Hubble Catches Rare Phenomenon, Star Ejects Blast of Gas

JAKARTA, iNews.id – Image from space telescope Hubble NASA has shared. The image is of a pair of jets gushing out of a newborn star, formed when an active star emits a stream of ionized gas.

This strange-looking cosmic phenomenon is a rare sight called the Herbig-Haro object, in this case dubbed HH111. Hubble scientists wrote, this spectacular object develops in very specific circumstances, as quoted from Digital Trends.

“Newly formed stars are often very active, and in some cases they emit very narrow jets of fast-moving ionized gas, gas that is so hot that the molecules and atoms lose electrons, making the gas highly charged,” the Hubble scientists said.

Furthermore, the Hubble scientists explained, the stream of ionized gas then collides with the gas and dust cloud surrounding the newly formed star at hundreds of miles per second. This energetic collision is what creates Herbig-Haro objects like HH111, as quoted from Digital Trends.
