NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has imaged three galaxies colliding with each other.
Also known as the “three galaxy merging”, this event occurs when three galaxies pull each other closer and closer together, tearing them apart under mutual gravitational forces.
According to the news of Independent Turkish; According to scientists, the Milky Way Galaxy, in which the Earth is located, was actually formed as a result of a galaxy merger.
On the other hand, in such mergers, the gases in the galaxies collide and condense, creating the conditions for completely different stars to form in the center of the new merged universe.
In a statement on February 18, NASA stated that the galaxy cluster captured by Hubble is named IC 2431 and is about 681 million light-years away from Earth.
Astronomers detected the massive merger thanks to the public science project Galaxy Zoo. Within the scope of the project, more than 100 thousand volunteers worked for the classification of 900 thousand galaxies that Hubble viewed but could not be examined in detail until today.
NASA stated that the participants of the project completed a classification study in 175 days, which perhaps astronomers could complete in years.
The Milky Way Galaxy is thought to be heading towards a similar merger. According to researchers from NASA, our galaxy will merge with the Andromeda Galaxy in about 4.5 billion years.
