Huawei’s Luxeed S7: A Potential Competitor to Tesla Model S in China’s Electric Car Market

The Chinese technology company Huawei is developing the Luxeed brand together with the Chinese state-owned Chery Automobile, and Huawei representatives have come up with a very loud statement, namely that the first serial model Luxeed S7 will be better than the Tesla Model S.

“The premiere of the car is expected at the end of November, and it will be better than the Tesla Model S in various aspects,” said Richard Yu Chendong, head of Huawei’s car division, while visiting the new product launch event in China. It is known that this car is being developed on a platform designed for an electric car with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. More information about the price, availability, various intelligent systems and other functions is not yet available.

The information published by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that, at least in one of the versions, this car is equipped with an LFP-type battery from CATL, which will allow you to drive around 700 kilometers on a single charge in the Chinese CLTC cycle, but it is an 800V system, providing a large charging capacity.

The Chinese media have information that this model will be the first to be equipped with the Huawei HarmonyOS 4 operating system, as well as various equipment for the autonomous driving system – LIDAR radar, 12 ultrasound radars and 11 high-resolution cameras, but this is all unofficial information. Market analysts in China think that Huawei’s skills and capabilities in the field of new technologies, as well as Chery’s knowledge and capabilities in manufacturing processes, put this product in a good starting position in the domestic market, where competition is very fierce.

Tesla currently leads the electric car market in China, but there the American automaker is facing increasing competition from local automakers such as NIO, Xpeng and others. Also, European and Japanese automakers are giving their best in the competition. which offers its own cars in the huge Chinese market. It’s no secret that another Chinese tech company, Xiaomi, is also developing its own electric car, which will further increase competition in China’s auto industry, which is not doing so well as the superpower’s economy faces problems.
