We’ve reviewed a number of Huawei smartwatches on this site in the past, and almost every time we’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response. Not only that, but several of our editors have been saying over the years that the Chinese giant is behind some very good smartwatches.
I have now seen how Huawei designs and builds smartwatches, experienced HarmonyOS on my wrist, and can now speak for myself, which is exciting in itself. Why? Well, because Huawei just makes really cool smartwatches, that’s for sure. First of all, this is the best made and best smart watch on the market, and I say that with a straight face. While the Apple Watch Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra are the same price and use good materials, no other smartwatch that I know of comes close to matching them in terms of materials and build quality. The entire glass is sapphire crystal, the bezel is ceramic, the face is zirconium, everything absorbs energy, and there are little details you’d expect. previous losses always appear. The strap length adjustment system is smooth and simple, you get an extra strap for tougher workouts, and it’s even available in a variety of colors. As a piece of hardware, Huawei has proven again and again that it can deliver genius after piece of excellence, and again, as a piece of hardware, I have no complaints – none at all .
The display is a whopping 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED with dimensions of 466×466. It is full color, calibrated, responsive and impressive, to say the least. The entire watch is quite large, even large, weighing 76 grams. It has a 100-meter water resistance ring and 10ATM and IP68 certifications, so it’s not only a beautiful watch but also a reliable piece of rugged gear that can withstand anything it throws at you.
You already have the most important sensors you need to track your health, at least to the extent that you can trust your smartwatch. Accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor, barometer, compass, SpO2 meter, thermometer to measure body temperature and BDS satellite integration. There are tons of training options, including offline maps for walking and more. Everything you want in a fancy smartwatch is here.
Here’s a hint:
Or is it? There are some flaws here, worth mentioning when Huawei costs more than 750 euros for the Ultimate. First, there is no 4G / 5G switch with eSim, which is a shame when the rest of the watch invites power users like that, and then there is HarmonyOS.
I agree with our reviewer Marco that Huawei’s operating system has come a long way recently, and while there are still limitations in how Huawei can integrate its watches into life based on your smartphone, there are limitations here as well. For example, although there are apps available for download via the AppGallery that can partially restore some of the usual smartwatch uses, such as controlling Spotify or turning Hue lights on and off, there is a lack official integration at these providers to ensure their use. For example, I use Spark Email, but Huawei refuses to recognize these notifications as emails (although the AppGallery offers Spark as an officially supported app) and collects the notifications without response options or simply mark them as read.
That said, you’d be surprised that Huawei really is Yes How much is given. Access weather, calendar, contacts, make and receive calls, use various health features like sleep tracking and workouts – all are available instantly, and the Ultimate lasted me about eight days on a charge. This is very clever stuff that almost puts the makers of WearOS and WatchOS to shame. Yes, notifications are a bit off, but 90% of the features you use every day are here, but you get both the most beautiful smartwatch on the market and a completely different battery life .
Here’s a hint:
I would personally sacrifice this amazing look for the much cheaper Watch GT 5 Pro. You get a similar look to the Ultimate, but at a much cheaper price. One thing is for sure though; I understand the whole obsession with Huawei smartwatches. They have overcome criticism that they sell glorified track bands by improving the operating system and focusing on build quality, making this a great choice if you are looking for a watch clever smart.
