Huawei Watch GT Cyber is a smart watch that can look different every day

For lovers of modular solutions, which are still rather rare in the field of smart watches, Huawei showed an unconventional Huawei Watch GT Cyber model at the MWC 2023 trade fair.

New day, new look

Today, the option of a replaceable strap (usually with a standardized attachment width of 22 or 20 millimeters) is already an absolute standard for at least slightly more expensive smart watches, but that is where the possibilities for user “customization” end. The impression of the watch can of course also be influenced by the selected wallpaper or the style of the dial, but the case itself, which plays a significant role in the design of the watch, cannot be modified in any way.

It is this feature (obviously more of an ailment for Huawei engineers) that is solved by the Huawei Watch GT Cyber model, which, with a bit of exaggeration, looks like a pocket watch, missing perhaps only a chain and a hinged lid. The crucial part of the watch, which is the display, the case with the button and the underside, under which the various health sensors are located, simply snaps into the cover of the case with the strap, completely changing the appearance of the watch.

At the Huawei booth, we were able to try several of these “outfits” for the watch, which are extremely easy to put on and then use the watch in a normal way. Increased resistance according to IP68 is also ensured, and there is also a great-looking 1.32″ OLED display with high brightness and finesse of 352 PPI. An important control (and partly, of course, design) element is the rotating crown. By double-pressing it, you can launch a menu with a selection of various applications, while we were able to view the latest version of the HarmonyOS operating system, which we have not been able to see elsewhere.

When will they look at us?

The Huawei Wach GT Cyber, although it is an interesting smart watch, unfortunately has no set availability for the Czech market at the moment. They are currently only available in China, but the positive thing is that the manufacturer intends to bring them to Europe as well, where they could be sold for roughly 5 to 6 thousand crowns. Individual straps (with case) could then be offered at a price not exceeding one thousand crowns. You can tell us how you like this solution in the comments.
