Huawei Watch 3 Pro, the master of elegance on the wrist. Everything you need to know [TEST]

1. Amazing appearance

Huawei’s design specialists did a great job as usual. The new Chinese watch looks amazing and – especially in my test sample version (Elite with a bracelet) it looks very elegant. The quality of workmanship of both the watch (titanium case, glass-ceramic bottom) and the bracelet (also made of titanium) is also at the highest level.

Unfortunately, the watch has grown significantly compared to the Watch GT 2 Pro, which we had previously tested. It has dimensions of 48 x 49.6 mm (the screen has a diameter of 1.43 cala) and a thickness of 14 mm (a bit more where the heart rate sensor is). Already at first glance, it is noticeably thicker than classic watches and many other smartwatches, which is a bit of a nuisance.

It is also very heavy (63 g without the bracelet), so you have to get used to its weight. Although smart bands and watches have not come off my wrist for years, the Watch 3 Pro was a bit too bulky for me, so I had to take a break for several minutes every few hours. There is also no question of sleeping with such a watch on your wrist. In the case of the Watch GT 2 Pro, I had no problem with it.

2. New Harmony OS system

Huawei announced that Watch 3 will get a new, proprietary Harmony OS operating system, and it happened. There is no revolution, however. From the user’s perspective, not much has changed (not to say anything) in relation to the Watcha GT 2 Pro. We are still dealing with an almost identical-looking interface. Here and there, only a few new features have been added, new dials have appeared, and the whole thing is noticeably smoother (although you have to wait a while for the opening of some of the application).

The AppGallery store is a complete novelty, from which we can download additional applications (although the choice is modest). I only installed one – Petal Maps (original Huawei maps), thanks to which I could display the route directions on the watch (useful on the bike). Unfortunately, the maps require a constant connection with a smartphone to work (it is also not possible to preview the map view on the watch).

3. Communication modules

In Huawei Watch 3 Pro, there are also new connectivity modules that we did not experience in the Watch GT series. Wi-Fi and e-SIM appeared, thanks to which we can have a permanent connection to the Internet, and also (only in the case of pairing the number via e-SIM) call and receive / send texts away from the phone. Of course, we also have Bluetooth and GPS, which is a standard in smartwatches.

An interesting fact is the presence of NFC – the module is supposed to be in the watch, but I have no idea what to use it for. Huawei Watch 3 does not support contactless payments, and it is unknown if it will ever start. This is a big minus, because contactless payments should work in this class of watches.

Among the interesting news, it is also worth mentioning the temperature sensor (the heart rate and blood oxygen saturation sensors were already there before). This does not mean, however, that after enabling the function, I will see the standard 36.6 degrees Celsius on the screen. As Huawei explained to me – the sensor measures the temperature of the skin (not the body), which is why the indications oscillate around 33.4 degrees C (measurements taken one by one, however, can differ significantly).

4. Great battery

Runtime on a single charge is one of the two biggest advantages of all Huawei watches. The Chinese have mastered the optimization of energy consumption, and Watch 3 Pro is another watch that lasts about 4-6 days of constant work without charging (with screen always on, Wi-Fi, heart rate and SpO2.). After turning off the Always On Display function, the operating time will probably be even longer.

Charging (as in the case of the Watcha GT 2 Pro) is wireless – through a dedicated magnetic stand or reverse charging from a phone that supports functions. By the way, it is worth mentioning that the watch is completely waterproof (up to 5 ATM).

A brief summary

The Huawei Watch 3 Pro is a great watch that is (unlike the Watch GT series models) a real smartwatch capable of working away from the phone for a long time. Numerous functions (both sports and more business ones – e.g. a notebook or a calendar) mean that everyone will find something for themselves here. I can only complain about the lack of contactless payments, which are supported by many competitors.

The biggest advantage of Watcha 3 Pro – at least in my opinion – is its sensational, extremely elegant look. The watch will fit perfectly even with a suit, as long as it fits under the cuff of the shirt. The downside is the exaggerated thickness of the smartwatch and its weight. Before buying, it is better to take the device in your hand and think about whether it will be convenient to use it.

At the end price. PLN 1999 for the version with a leather strap and PLN 400 more if we choose the version with a titanium bracelet. It’s a lot. Watch 3 will be a slightly cheaper alternative, the prices of which are PLN 1699 or PLN 1799 depending on the version.
