Beijing has mapped out a path to become more economically self-sufficient. Core technology must be built in-house, because the Chinese do not trust that they can always buy it elsewhere. Huawei itself has no experience in building chips and the future factory must therefore be run by another Chinese company.
Chinese companies have been under attack for a long time, especially from the United States. The Americans suspect Huawei of espionage for the Chinese government, which the companies deny. Several European countries were warned by the US in the past not to do business with Chinese companies for the rollout of 5G. Sweden recently banned the use of Huawei equipment, in Belgium telecom operator Proximus said goodbye to Huawei.
