Armed with its HarmonyOS operating system, Huawei seeks to install this OS on 200 million products this year. It would replace Android, which the manufacturer no longer has the right to use.
The saga between Huawei and Android has started in 2019. The beginning of the end for the Chinese manufacturer which, deprived of the majority operating system, has seen its sales collapse. Despite the election of Joe Biden and the desire for a resumption of dialogue, it seems that no turning back is planned. According to the Chinese press, Huawei would therefore seek to replace Android with HarmonyOS on a fleet of 200 million smartphones already on the market.

HarmonyOS instead of Android: the savior of Huawei?
The year 2020 has been quite difficult for the Chinese manufacturer. Despite a world first place in sales of phones at the heart of the epidemic, it has only fallen. After a turn of the screw of US sanctions, the founder TSMC and other partners can no longer deliver products to Huawei. The latter had to sell his subsidiary Honor to hope to mop up some losses. The only escape route for the manufacturer seems to be the deployment of its HarmonyOS operating system on all its products already released. This would represent a total of 200 million phones.
From the start of the sanctions, the developers began to work on this backup solution. The phones are currently sold with Huawei Mobile Services pending updating. According to an article by Ars Technica which has dissected HarmonyOS, it is presented as a copy of Android on which the house overlay is applied. A simplistic postulate which Huawei defends itself, explaining that the Chinese firm mainly exploits the free beta. This concerns both Android and Linux for example. The manufacturer’s action would begin from April on all products marketed.
