The Mate X2, Huawei’s next foldable smartphone, differs from its predecessors with a new design. Unlike the Mate X and Mate XS, the terminal is indeed built around a screen that folds inwards like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2. In a handful of teasers that appeared on social media, Huawei confirmed the new design of the Mate X2.

A few days before the announcement, Huawei released two teaser posters showing the Mate X2 on Sina Weibo, the Chinese social network, report our colleagues from Huawei Central. The first teaser (at the end of the article) plays the mystery card with an “X” and a “2” which represent the two parts of the foldable screen.
On the second poster, visible above, shows a preview of the foldable screen and the central hinge. Foldable smartphone screen visibly folds inward. Once closed, the touch screen is fully protected from knocks, shocks and other everyday hazards.

Mate X2 screen folds inward
Note that this is the first time that Huawei has opted for a screen that folds inward. The first two foldable smartphones of the Chinese brand, the Mate X and the Mate XS, were sublimated by a foldable screen that folds outward. De facto, the touch screen was not protected when it was folded up. As expected, Huawei therefore adopts the design of Samsung’s foldable smartphones. Since the Galaxy Fold, the Seoul giant has always opted for a screen that folds inward.
According to the latest information already available on the technical sheet of the Mate X2, Huawei would bet on a main screen of 8.01 ″ diagonal and will offer a definition of 2270 x 1160 pixels. A smaller secondary screen of 6.45 ″ (2270 x 1160 pixels) and dedicated to contextual information (notifications, messages, battery, etc.) will allow you to use the smartphone once the screen is folded. This screen is housed on the back of the smartphone.
Unsurprisingly, Huawei relies on the powerful Kirin 9000 SoC to ensure performance. It is rumored that Huawei will offer several colors of the foldable smartphone. As a reminder, Huawei will present the Mate X2 on February 22, 2021 at a conference.
