Huawei remains on US blacklist despite Joe Biden coming to power

Biden keeps Huawei on blacklist – Geeko

The arrival of Joe Biden as President of the United States was synonymous with hope and renewal for Huawei and foreshadowed a relaxation of trade restrictions imposed on American companies that wanted to work with the Chinese company. But the new secretary of commerce of the Biden administration – appointed, but not yet validated for this post -, Gina Raimondo indicated that she saw “no reason” to remove Huawei from the United States’ blacklist, stressing that the Chinese group still represented a risk to national security today.

A new blow for the Chinese group, and for American companies which will still not be able to market easily with Huawei. The US restrictions are valid for Huawei, for the SMIC founder and for the CCTV system supplier Hikvision.

China responds

This decision obviously does not please China, which has been denouncing trade restrictions imposed on Chinese companies for almost two years.

“We urge you to end this gratuitous oppression against Chinese companies,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a regular press briefing in Beijing Thursday, Bloomberg reported.
