Huawei Recognized for Advancing Digital Education in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA — Chinese tech giant Huawei has won acclaim for its role in accelerating digital education in Ethiopia.

This came during an education-themed summit hosted by Huawei Ethiopia on Friday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, under the theme “Accelerating the digital education journey for Ethiopia”.

Zelalem Assefa, head of ICT and digital education at the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, said on the occasion that the East African country is developing a digital education strategy to make education more accessible and engaging through digital technology.

He said Huawei was a key partner of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education in the digital transformation of the education sector in the country. “Huawei’s expertise in ICT solutions has helped us develop innovative solutions that have transformed the way we teach and learn.”

“Huawei’s decision to open an ICT academy at our institution of higher education has helped us train many ICT professionals, enabling our students to communicate and learn from experts from other industries across the world,” the official said.

Huawei’s annual Flagship Regional Education Industry Summit brought together industry elites, experts and related industry partners to discuss digital transformation and ICT development trends in education.

During the summit, experts, scholars as well as heads of leading Ethiopian universities discussed the challenges and opportunities to promote the adoption of technology in the education sector, while addressing different perspectives on education. digital, such as improving the efficiency of school management.

Liu Jifan, general manager of Huawei Ethiopia, said that Huawei is cooperating with customers in many sectors, including the education sector in Ethiopia, to promote the digital sector in the country.

Different presentations related to education were made during the summit. Among them is a survey of the Debre Tabor University data center, which was built and realized using Huawei Technologies products.

Anegaregn Gashaw, President of Debre Tabor University, pointed out that the project shows the attention Huawei has given to education centers.

The Chinese tech giant has several annual projects to promote the Ethiopian education system, such as ICT competition, seeds of the future, women in technology and the recently announced Digi Truck project.

The company, using ICT technologies, helps the country develop talent, reduce learning gaps and facilitate the digital education revolution.
