Huawei Mate 40E 5G is a cheaper version of the Mate 40 family, with a Kirin 990E and 64MP camera, and here are its specs, price and release date.
Huawei likes to launch editions and re-releases of old phones. Just yesterday it launched the Huawei MatePad New Edition, last month the Huawei P40 4G and now it’s the turn of the new Huawei Mate 40E 5G.
This is a review of the Huawei Mate 40 from October where some changes have been made. It changes the Kirin 9000E to the Kirin 990E, reduces its price and the camera gains a little more resolution in its main sensor.

There are some changes in the camera
The new Huawei Mate 40E 5G is very similar to the original Huawei Mate 40, although a few more changes have been made compared to what we have seen, for example, between the Huawei P40 and the Huawei P40 4G. For starters, the look is the same, although the new Huawei Mate 40E is available in a smaller color range than the previous model.
This means that we keep the 6.5-inch OLED screen, with curves all around, Full HD + resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate. The touch response rate is still 240Hz. One of its corners integrates the front camera, which is 13MP, in a perforation.
On the back, we have the same design with a circular camera module, centered and signed by Leica. Everything is the same, even if there is a change in the main sensor. We now have a 64MP main sensor, up from 50MP in the original model.
The other lenses remain the same: a 16MP wide-angle with an f / 2.2 aperture that doubles as a macro, and an 8MP f / 2.4 telephoto lens. Combined, they offer 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom.
A less powerful processor
Part of the change in the camera, the big change in the Huawei Mate 40E is in the processor. Instead of having the Kirin 9000E, we have a Kirin 990E. For reference, the Kirin 9000E has eight cores 1 x 3.13 GHz + 2 x 2.54 GHz + 3 x 2.54 GHz + 4 x 2.05 GHz, while the Kirin 990E is made up of 2 x 2.86 GHz + 2 x 2.36 GHz + 4 x 1.95 GHz. That’s a lot of numbers, but that sums it up easily: it’s a less powerful processor. Memory and storage remain the same, with 8 GB of RAM and versions with 128 or 256 GB of storage.
On the battery we have the same capacity of 4200mAh with support for 40W fast charging and 40W wireless charging. The phone is well charged in connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 , NFC, mini-jack and infrared.
