Huawei’s first phone with a 108MP camera is here – not a flagship, but more of a mid-range nova series. The Huawei nova 9 SE has been quietly released on the company’s Malaysian site and you can even pre-order one already (open sales start on March 11, Friday).

The 108 MP sensor lives in the main camera on the back, where it’s joined by an 8 MP ultrawide camera (not this wide with a FoV of 112°), a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. Super Night Shot is a key selling point, taking multiple exposures and merging them into one. The latest camera is on the front, a 16 MP shooter.
It is drilled into the 6.78-inch screen, which has narrow bezels (1.05 mm), an LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2388 px. The front and back are covered with sheets of glass.
The nova 9 SE runs Android 12 out of the box with EMUI 12 on top and the Huawei AppGallery store. Huawei is still holding back a few details (it will probably fill in the blanks on the 11th). But we expect to see a Snapdragon 680 as the brains of the phone, with 4G connectivity and Wi-Fi 5(ac).

The phone is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, which supports Huawei’s proprietary SuperCharge at 66W. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint reader, but no 3.5mm headphone jack in sight .
The Huawei nova 9 SE can be pre-ordered in Malaysia from huawei.com. At the moment, you can put down a deposit of 20 MYR, but note that the price is being kept secret for the time being – it will be revealed on March 11 at 4:00 p.m. local time. You can choose between Crystal Blue, Pearl White and Midnight Black. Note that the 20 MYR deposit is non-refundable, but it gives you a chance to win a voucher worth 1,888, 888 or 666 MYR.

A quick comparison with the nova 9 and 9 Pro shows that the other models in the family have 120Hz OLED displays (6.57″ and 6.72″, respectively), Snapdragon 778G chipsets, 50+8+2+2 MP rear and 32 MP front cameras. The vanilla phone has a 4300mAh battery with 66W charging, the nova 9 Pro has a 4000mAh battery with 100W charging.
