A computer lab, built by Huawei Technologies and commissioned this weekend to serve the community of Koguna city of Makoda local government in Kano state, has been named “Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta computer laboratory”.
Huawei Nigeria Public Relations Manager Lola Fafore said during the commissioning, in the presence of NCC Executive Vice President Prof. Umar Danbatta and Makoda District Head Alhaji Labaran Abdullahi, that the project was within the company’s contributions to Nigeria as part of its corporate social responsibility. Fafore assured that Huawei will continue to promote digital inclusion, mainly by providing access to technology.

“Huawei has been operating in Nigeria for more than 22 years and we can say that Nigeria is a great country full of many talents and potentials. We love the people of Nigeria and are happy to always give back through corporate social responsibility initiatives like this one,”
“Huawei therefore makes constant efforts in terms of connectivity, applications and transfer of skills to promote digital inclusion for all. This is in line with Huawei’s mission to bring digital services to every person, home and organization for a fully connected intelligent world. As part of our contribution to this great nation, we believe in making technology accessible to all. Technology shouldn’t be for a few, it should be for everyone,” he said.
In appreciation for naming the center and donating to the community, Danbatta congratulated Huawei Nigeria Limited. He also thanked the company for the vital role it has played in developing the telecommunications sector in Nigeria.
“This computer lab was built with a huge donation from Huawei. And Huawei is a household name in Nigeria. They provide and manage services for major telecommunications companies in Nigeria. They are dominant in this area. I cannot imagine the state of telecommunications in Nigeria without the invaluable role Huawei plays in the country,” said Danbatta.
The traditional ruler of Makoda, who doubles as Barayan Bichi, praised the donors and the head of the NCC, whose philanthropic disposition attracted the gesture towards the community.
He said Danabatta has made an invaluable contribution to the development of our communities, the state and the nation as a whole. The community leader said that Danbatta has implemented many philanthropic and people-oriented projects in his Danbatta community in addition to his progress in driving the development of ICT adoption and use, through numerous initiatives as the country’s top telecommunications regulator.
Among those who attended the commissioning ceremony were Makoda Alhaji Local Government Deputy Chairman Yusif Bala, Human Capital and Administration Director of NCC, Lawyer Usman Malah, Cabinet Chief of the EVC, Malam Hafiz Shehu and Controller, Kano NCC Area Office, Malam Shuaibu Swade among others.
