Huawei launches the challenger Galaxy Z Flip in China

Foldable mobiles are still a niche. Phones are more fragile with their hinges and soft screens, but they also cost more than traditional rigid phones with other similar components.

Huawei is, along with Samsung, one of the few companies that has invested heavily in folding models. Now the company is launching a new model in China. Pocket S it’s called, and it’s basically a simpler and cheaper variant of the P50 Pocket. It therefore has the hinge on the short side, similar, for example, to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

The Pocket S’s internal foldable screen is 6.9 inches with a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 hertz. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 778G, a simpler chip than the Snapdragon 888 chip found in the P50 Pocket. The system is Harmony OS 3.0.

Inside is a selfie camera with 10.7 megapixels in a hole in the screen, outside a 40 megapixel wide-angle camera with RYYB type sensor and lens with an aperture of f / 1.8 and an ultra wide angle angular camera with 13 megapixels. There is no telephoto lens like in the P50 Pocket.

Pocket S is launched on the Chinese market for the first time and costs around 9,200 SEK GSM Arena.
