Huawei is reportedly in the process of preparing a new foldable smartphone, despite the US sanctions hanging over it. According to our colleagues from the Gizmochina site, the start of production of the successor to the Mate X would be imminent.

This is not the first time we have heard of the Huawei Mate X2, direct successor to the Mate X, the brand’s very first foldable smartphone. Thanks to a patent application filed by the company, we were recently able to discover the first official renderings of the Mate X2.
If previous rumors evoked a design similar to Galaxy Fold, this Huawei Mate X2 would retain the line of its predecessor, if we are to believe in any case the various images that accompany this patent. These visuals also revealed the presence of a stylus, a popular accessory that Samsung has chosen not to integrate on its next Galaxy Z Fold 2.
However, on this Friday August 21, 2020, our colleagues from the Gizmochina site affirm that the start of production of the Mate X2 is imminent. According to their information, the Shenzhen firm ordered more than 300,000 flexible screens, in anticipation of a launch in September 2020.

No UTG screen for the Mate X2
These tiles provided by the world market leader would offer a diagonal of 8 inches and a resolution of 240 x 2220 pixels. In addition, Huawei would not have opted for UTG technology, used in particular by Samsung on the Galaxy Z Flip. The Chinese manufacturer would have instead turned to CPI technology (polyimide transparent).
In addition, a visual of the Mate X2 which has leaked on the Net reveals the presence of a secondary display along the entire length of the section. It is also on this part of the device that the photo unit would be housed, composed of four sensors (40 MP + 40 MP + 12 MP + ToF). Regarding the technical sheet of the device, the first rumors evoke several configurations: 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB / 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB.
The Mate X2 would then carry a battery of 6 000 mAh and would benefit from a 65W fast charge. However, information about the processor remains unclear. If the presence of a Soc Kirin seemed obvious a short time ago, the new American sanctions which prevent Huawei from obtaining a processor from US resellers will complicate matters.
