Chinese technology company Huawei has entered into talks with German carmakers Audi and Mercedes to buy part of Huawei’s car software unit, opening the door for more cooperation in the future. Currently, Huawei provides software to several local Chinese automakers, while the company’s problems in the international market are widely documented.
Recently, there have been reports that Huawei wants to sell this unit, but this is believed to be part of an effort to distance this unit from the parent company itself. As you know, Huawei has been subject to extensive US sanctions.
Citing my sources, Automotive News Europe writes that the Chinese want to get one or perhaps both German automakers to buy at least part of the auto software structure. It is reported that Mercedes categorically refused the offer, stating that they plan to continue developing their own software. To be honest, the experience in Mercedes cars with it has been very good and I would like to think that this is the right direction for them.
There is no such clarity about Audi’s answer, but it should be taken into account that Audi is part of the Volkswagen group, that is, they are very connected to the overall direction of the VW group and it is not so easy to go their own way. It’s no secret that VW has had severe problems specifically in software matters, with the specially created Cariad software department largely failing and failing to cope with its tasks.
