For the first time, Madagascar will be represented at the world final of the ICT Competition which will take place in Shenzhen, Guangdong in China, from May 24 to 27, 2023. Of the 120,000 candidate students from more than 2,000 universities from 74 countries and regions, our young people are now among the best.
From the preliminary phase, through the national competition, then the regional competition against candidates from other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the six representatives from Madagascar have evolved rapidly in Huawei’s ICT journey. Compared to the competitors, the young Malagasy are gifted in self-training, according to the testimonies of the candidates. Indeed, thanks to the performance of its representatives, the Big Island is among the winners of the first prize of the sub-Saharan regional final for the Network Track category and the second prize of this same final for the Cloud Track category. “There are several stages in the ICT journey. We started in the preliminary phase of the competition with the beginner level. During the regional final, we were already at the professional level and for the world final, the competition will be at the more professional level. If we succeed, we will reach the expert level which is extraordinary, because there are few students who have this level. To advance in the levels, we have training to follow and exercises to do on the ICT platform”, explains Tokiniaina Rakotonjanahary Tokiniaina, a young 18-year-old candidate, member of the Malagasy team at the ICT Competition world final in the Network Track category.
Young people put forward. According to the organizers, this Huawei competition is an international ICT talent exchange event for university and college students, to promote the healthy development of the ICT talent ecosystem and support integration between industry. and teaching. “For Huawei Madagascar, the fact that the country is positioned among the best competitors in the Sub-Saharan Africa region and around the world represents a national pride. This competition allows the transfer of skills and technologies,” says Quesiah Botoale, Director of Communication and Public Relations at Huawei Madagascar and no less Huawei ambassador for the Sub-Saharan Africa region. According to him, this competition is also part of the ARIVO program, which aims to provide a thousand people working for the development of Madagascar, through the use of new technologies and digital transformation. In addition, Huawei Madagascar partners with the Government, educational institutes and industries to equip future leaders with the latest knowledge at the highest global level. A challenge that is about to be met, if we refer to this performance by young Malagasy people at the ICT Competition 2022-2023.

Madagascar Team in the Cloud Track Category
- Rakotonandrasana Sitrakiniaina Hery Valisoa Roland 23 years old, M2 in the MISA department (Mathematics, Informatics and Applied Statistics) of the University of Antananarivo: “As part of the competition, there are problems to solve and tasks to complete. We use the right techniques. These problems can relate to programming, network architecture, etc. I find that the Malagasy candidates have a good level, but it takes a lot of practical exercises”.
- Tanjona Telecommunication at ESPA (Polytechnic School of Antananarivo) Vontovorona: “We are in the preparation phase for the world final. One of the big challenges is time management, because we have to practice together. Candidates from other countries have a small advantage, because they are English-speaking and the competition is held in English. But that doesn’t mean we’re stuck. Moreover, at the technical level, I think we have a head start.
- Toky Harijaona Randriambala is a student in Telecommunication at ESPA.
Madagascar team in the Network Track category
- Olivio Tojo Fandreseniaina Razafiarison, 21 years old L3 student in Telecommunications at ESPA: “For this competition you have to learn and practice online. In the digital sector, we Malagasy have an asset in self-learning, which facilitated our evolution in this competition. But time management was a bit difficult because with our studies, we also had to find time to learn and practice on the ICT platform”.
- Tokiniaina Rakotonjanahary, 18 years old, L3 in Telecommunication at ESPA. “At the beginning, I took part in this competition out of curiosity. But a great motivation was born, from the first step. I never imagined succeeding in reaching this world final. I didn’t even have a computer and I did the ICT course with a smartphone at the start. But now I think it’s possible for our team to have the world grand prix.”.
- Allan Patrick Bournas, 22 years old, M2 in Telecommunications at ESPA. “Thanks to Huawei for organizing this contest. I evolved very quickly, because the courses are done in stages. My vision at the start of the competition is to take Madagascar to the world final. It happened and today we are ready to face the best competitors from all over the world”.
