Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+ Capable of Monitoring Heart Rate and Temperature

Huawei’s premium TWS earphones have received extra functions.

Expanded with new sensors, Huawei presented the Freebuds Pro 2 plus version released last summer, the Freebuds Pro 2+ device called The Pro 2+, which is almost indistinguishable in its appearance, is also capable of heart rate monitoring and temperature monitoring, with a double TruSeen sensor using infrared and green light, which Huawei calls the world’s first. The two new sensors make the plus model minimally heavier, the earphones weigh 6.3 grams instead of 6 grams. The sensors are located on the head of the device in the ear cup, and of course the device also has the proximity sensor and the microphone used for active noise filtering on the earphones.

There is a 55 mAh cell in the earphones, the earphones are magnetically charged wirelessly in the case, and the case can be supplied with energy via a USB-C connector or a Qi wireless charger. The sounds are played by an 11 mm dynamic driver and a dedicated tweeter, active noise cancellation, L2HC and LDAC codec support, and Devialet’s contribution to the tuning remain. And devices running Harmony OS have 360-degree surround sound in certain apps.

The Bluetooth connection is 5.2, and the design of the earphones is IP54, so dust and dripping water or sweat cannot damage them. The earphones are capable of continuous heart rate monitoring during use, and there is also a high-precision mode, the latter of which can be activated in the Smart Life application before training, in order to improve the accuracy of heart rate measurements. According to Huawei’s measurements, the TruSeen sensor measures within 10 bpm with 95% accuracy in the earphones during both outdoor and indoor use.

For temperature measurement, an algorithm calculates body temperature in the Smart Life application from the data of the sensor located at three different points of the left earphone. One of the sensors is directed towards the ear canal, this is located at the end of the seed tube on the head of the Freebuds Pro 2+, one sensor monitors the ear cup, this heart rate monitor is integrated with the TruSeen sensor, and one measures the earlobe, this is located at the end of the earphone stem. According to Huawei, at a room temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius, the device measures with an accuracy of 0.3°C in 80% of cases. At the same time, the temperature measurement only works if the user turns off the noise canceling, music playback, or is not on the phone.
