Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Trump’s sanctions on Huawei are an advantage for Samsung. This South Korean technology giant is rumored to be supplying the Exynos chipset to Xiaomi and Oppo after previously Vivo.
Business Korea reported that Samsung’s LSI Business division will supply Exynos chipsets to Chinese cellphone producers Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo in the first half of 2020. This chipset is for cheap cellphones (bugdet), as quoted on Wednesday (4/11/2020).
The LSI Business Division is the main supplier of Samsung Galaxy mobile chipsets until mid-2020. After this division is trying to reduce dependence on Samsung and looking for new customers due to thin operating margins.
One of the Chinese smartphone manufacturers that uses the services of this company is Vivo, which embeds the Exynos 980 and Exynos 880 in 2020.
This new customer is a blessing to Trump’s sanctions on Huawei. Xiaomi and Oppo need to secure additional supply of chipsets to expand production once there is a market vacuum Huawei has left.
This increase in demand is also expected to increase Samsung’s market share in the chipset market. It is estimated that its ranking will rise to the third position close to Qualcomm and MediaTek.
