Vienna / Sofia (OTS) – The global technology company wants to make a contribution to advance research in Bulgaria. Huawei is also involved in various student initiatives in Austria.
Huawei Technologies Bulgaria EOOD and the University of St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The two parties agreed to work together on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and other new high-end technologies. It was also agreed to jointly run the Huawei ICT Academy program and set up a scientific laboratory at the University of Sofia.
The university and Huawei plan on the one hand to work together on research projects funded by the EU or other institutions, and on the other hand to cooperate on commercially financed projects. For this purpose, the university’s ICT infrastructures are being expanded and specialized AI laboratories are being set up.
In addition to R&D and infrastructure projects, the collaboration also includes education, training and workshops for students, academic societies and Bulgarian industry. Through the cooperation with Huawei, the University of Sofia is expanding its position as a leading research center in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence.
Social contribution counts
„At a time when technology is developing as rapidly as we are experiencing today, it is extremely important to work with research institutions
“, Says Erich Manzer, VP of Huawei Technologies Austria,”This creates a win-win situation: universities are enabled to conduct research and students get the chance to acquire new knowledge. After graduation, companies benefit from being able to recruit well-trained graduates.
“
That is why Huawei Austria has been promoting domestic and international students for many years with “Seeds for the Future” and the “Huawei Scholarship”. Since the project started in 2012, around 100 students in Austria have received study trips or grants.
