Seven tons of guano from the islands of doubtful origin were seized in three establishments for the sale of agricultural inputs in Huancayo, in an operation carried out by the Urban Development Management of the Huancayo provincial municipality, Agro Rural, the Public Ministry and the National Police From Peru.
The premises where the fertilizer was found are located in the Piura Nueva extension in Huancayo: Agroveterinaria Villalf Multiservicios, Mundo Agro Semillero and Agroinversiones Sofía. There, 40, 99 and 3 bags of guano from the islands were seized, respectively.
The Zonal Directorate of Agro Rural Junín keeps in custody, in its warehouses, the bags seized in the operation for analysis by the Public Ministry. After knowing the results, the prosecution will determine who are responsible for the illegal marketing or adulteration of this natural compost.
“The collaboration of farmers with their complaints and the work of the Police are key to safeguarding this natural resource and preventing acts of fraud,” said the executive director of Agro Rural, Roxana Orrego Moya.
“It is important to highlight that Agro Rural, executing unit of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, from its directions and zonal agencies, is the only entity authorized to commercialize guano from the islands, at a social price in favor of family farming ”, added the official.
Training for the use of guano
Orrego also highlighted that the supply of guano to the islands has been innovating with itinerant delivery warehouses, where organized producer families accumulate a purchase volume of 20 to 30 tons, which are distributed at a nearby point.
Furthermore, within the framework of National Fertilization and Composting Plan 2021 Producers have been trained on the use of guano from the islands, corral guano and other natural fertilizers, to guarantee their performance in organic production chains.
These trainings are developed at the national level in a virtual and face-to-face way, complying with biosafety protocols, in demonstration plots of one hectare each one and in the beneficiary communities of intervention.
