HSV Captain Schonlau Open to Another Second Division Season with Team

Hamburg (dpa / lno) – Despite a possible non-promotion, soccer professional Sebastian Schonlau can imagine another second division season with Hamburger SV. “In principle, definitely,” said the HSV captain of “Bild” when asked whether an extension of his contract was conceivable for him regardless of the league. “I’ve got a really great job here and I feel brutally comfortable,” added the centre-back.

Schonlau’s contract runs until June 2024. “We always said we’d talk after the season. We’ll see whether that’s in three or four weeks. But we still have a lot to do before then,” said the 28- year olds.

The third in the second division is currently trembling for a direct promotion and could end up in relegation at the end of the season. In general, according to Schonlau, every second division team is happy at the end of the season “if they play relegation”. He added: “We don’t need to talk about the fact that you want to be promoted directly and that that’s also our goal. Nevertheless, it has to be in everyone’s mind that the relegation is an opportunity.”

According to information from “Bild”, central defender Stephan Ambrosius, who was loaned to league competitor Karlsruher SC, is unlikely to return to HSV. After an appointment by his advisor with Hamburg’s sports director Jonas Boldt, the trend was clear that Ambrosius wanted to terminate his contract.
