HSV at the top of the second division thanks to Terodde

You could rely on the scorer: Simon Terodde shot Hamburger SV to first place in the 2nd Bundesliga and also achieved a top position himself. In contrast, Bundesliga relegated SC Paderborn is still waiting for their first win of the season.

Paderborn – Simon Terodde saved Hamburger SV from the first serious setback on the way to the hoped-for resurgence.

With his second brace (24./57.) In the second game of the season, the newcomer from Cologne gave his team the first league lead in the 2nd Bundesliga in ten months in the remarkable 4: 3 (2: 3) at SC Paderborn. The other goals for coach Daniel Thioune’s team were contributed by Manuel Wintzheimer (14th) and Aaron Hunt (82nd / foul penalty). In contrast, the strong Bundesliga relegated from East Westphalia suffered the second defeat on Monday in front of 300 spectators in the Benteler Arena, despite goals from Dennis Srbeny (34th / foul penalty) and Chris Führich (36th / 38th).

«We showed patience after the break and had the quality to come back. It’s nice when the team is successful and the boys help me score goals with strong assists, ”said Terodde after the game. With his two goals, the 32-year-old has now scored 122 goals in the 2nd Bundesliga and replaced Sven Demandt as the top scorer in the league. “It’s a nice side note. If the team is successful, all the better, ”he said on Sky TV and emphasized:“ Now we’re at the top of the table after a really difficult opening program against two Bundesliga relegated teams. It wasn’t without it. I want to play a very, very good season with HSV, I’m really up for it. ”

Paderborn’s double scorer Führich was buckled after the game. “It is very disappointing that after all the effort we have put in, we do not take anything countable with us. We gave everything until the end, we kept the quota high, it was an open game until the end. ”

Already in the first half, HSV felt that there was still a lot of work to do on the way to the hoped-for promotion. After the early lead through the placed low shot from Wintzheimer and the header from Terodde to 2-0, the team seemed to be on the same good path as in the convincing 2-1 win over the second Bundesliga relegated Düsseldorf a week earlier.

But carelessness crept into the feeling of supposedly secure guidance. Not least because of this, HSV, which had previously determined the game, was behind within five minutes. After the penalty hit by Srbeny, Paderborn drew new courage and relentlessly exposed Hamburg’s weaknesses. Two remarkable goals from Führich quickly caused disillusionment among the guests.

Only at the beginning of the second half did HSV get back on track. As with his brace against Düsseldorf, Terodde was once again reliable. After a cross from Wintzheimer, the 32-year-old made it 3: 3 in the style of a real striker. In the final phase, the North Germans pushed for the winning goal and were rewarded for their great commitment. Substitute Hunt ensured the happy ending with a converted penalty.
