A-Juniors of HSG Rodgau Nieder-Roden win the first leg in the DHB Cup quarter-finals 27:21 (14:9) against the Mecklenburger Stiere Schwerin

In front of an atmospheric backdrop in the Rodaustrom Sportarena, the spectators experienced a hard-fought game from the start. The Baggerseepirate were well positioned against the decimated young bulls from Schwerin and took over the command after a short palpation. With a stable and well-aligned defensive formation, the guests were kept at a distance and the goals conceded were correspondingly low. On the offensive, you always found your way to the goal with good runs and gradually gained a growing lead. However, at this point in time, numerous goal chances on the part of the Rodgauer remained unused in order to make the lead in the first part of the game clearer.

After the change of sides at 14:9, the guests came back into the game better with two goals in a row. Both teams continued to get down to business with the same level of commitment and gave nothing away. The Baggerseepiraten remained 4-5 goals ahead until the middle of the second half. But the Rodgauers didn’t give up, continued to press the famous gas pedal and now got down to business even more concentrated. Simple ball wins and quick switching game, paired with more effective exploitation of chances was now the cornerstone for a strong final phase of the HSG youth. After an interim 8-goal advantage at 27:19, however, the last two goals of the game for the final score of 27:21 were reserved for the guests from Schwerin.

It is now important to use the upcoming training week effectively and to focus on the second leg in Schwerin next weekend. With the six-goal cushion in their luggage, the Baggerseepiraten will do everything in their power to reach the final four of the DHB Cup and thus ensure direct qualification for the upcoming youth Bundesliga season 2022/23.

The game will take place on Sunday, May 1st at 3 p.m. in the Erich-Kästner-Sporthalle in Schwerin. The hosts offer a live stream under the following link:
