After the short winter break, the players of the third division handball team HSG Krefeld Niederrhein have been sweating again since Monday. Alexander Kübler is now part of the “Eagles” team. The 32-year-old runner is moving from league competitor Leichlinger TV to the Glockenspitz, thus compensating for the departure from Toni Juric. Kübler, who is wearing the shirt number 19, scored 51 goals in 14 games this season.

Kübler comes from Potsdam, where he wore the jersey of the local VfL 1990 from 2000 to 2010. After a year with the “second” of the Bundesliga club SC Magdeburg, he moved to TSV Bayer Dormagen, with whom he was promoted to the 2nd division. After the 2017/18 season, Leichlinger TV signed him. The 1.87 m tall runner lives in Düsseldorf and works in Wuppertal.

“Alex Kübler is a very experienced player who already has experience in the second division. Most recently, Alex was one of the absolute leading players in Leichlingen. He was a key player there in attack, but also played a very important role in defense. We are happy that Alex has strengthened us at such short notice, ”says Sport Director Stefan Nippes. The change was only possible now because Leichlingen has already announced that it will withdraw from the 3rd division after the season.

“I’m grateful that the change was possible so quickly and that Leichlingen didn’t put any obstacles in the player’s way. Alex is an experienced cyclist and a fighter who has already brought his spirit into the first training units. It will certainly do us good. Overall, it increases the quality of training. Now, with him and Lars Jagieniak, we have two very good runners, ”said coach Maik Pallach. Kübler is a different type of player like Juric: “With Alex we will change our circular game again. He has a very good feeling for the space and is also a very aggressive defender. “With Kübler, the coach and his team want to rehearse a second defense system:” That is a big topic. With Alex we can implement a more offensive system and thus put the opponent in front of other tasks. Kübler and Jagieniak have already played in a team in Dormagen.

Pallach could not greet all players at the start of training on Monday. Two tested positive for Covid-19, although the entire team has already received the third vaccination. “But I assume that you can be there again next week.” Jonas Molz had to go until Wednesday because of a cold. Nick Braun is currently with the Belgian national team. Due to the increasing number of corona cases, the players are tested before each training session. “For this we have a test system built on three pillars, depending on how it suits the players,” said Managing Director André Schicks.

At the weekend, trainer Pallach asks his protégés to attend a two-day training camp: “We want to continue working on the subject of defense, especially the second variant, and discuss tactical matters. Then on Sunday we want to play a game with each other. “

Next Friday, the second half of the third division season D will continue with the away game against the Bergische Panthers. It is not yet clear whether another new addition will be added to the team or even strengthened by then. “We continue to monitor the market. There are sure to be players who are interesting, ”said Pallach. The coach did not want to confirm that Valdas Novickis is another top performer from Leichlingen who could relieve Merten Krings in the backcourt: “He’s an experienced backcourt player who also scores the most goals in Leichlingen. He can help at the third division level. But I can’t say whether it will help us in terms of advancement in the future. “
