HSE Midwest Urges Public to Reduce Tobacco and Alcohol Intake on World Cancer Day
On World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4th, the HSE Midwest is calling on individuals to take proactive steps in reducing their tobacco and alcohol intake. This global initiative, led by organizations like the Union for International cancer Control (UICC), aims to raise awareness about cancer prevention and promote healthier lifestyles [[2]].
The HSE’s national Cancer Control Program is marking the day by sharing 12 actionable ways to lower the risk of a cancer diagnosis. According to the HSE, four out of every ten cancers are preventable, with tobacco and alcohol being the leading causes of preventable cancers in Ireland.
