Almost stumbled: HSC Kreuzlingen is shaking in the cup round of 16, SC Frauenfeld is eliminated
With a 23:21 away win against the top 1st league team KTV Altdorf, HSC Kreuzlingen only narrowly made it into the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup. The NLB women from HC Arbon are also one round further.
Bujar Ramosaj and HSC Kreuzlingen had more trouble than expected in the cup against outsiders Altdorf.

The Kreuzlingen NLA handball players did not cover themselves with glory against the central Swiss players who play two classes lower. The people of Uri and the 400 enthusiastic spectators could hope for a surprise until 6:16 p.m. (45th). Although they had to bow to the higher-class HSCK in the decisive phase, the Altdorfers were allowed to leave the field with their heads held high.
The Kreuzlingen team had probably underestimated the first division team. The quick 5-2 lead after five and a half minutes seemed to give the upperclassmen even more confidence that they could easily overcome the hurdle in Altdorf. But the underdog disenchanted the favorites with five goals in a row from 3:6 to 8:6 (15th) and forced HSCK coach Ralf Bader to call an early timeout. Without any visible effect.
Kreuzlinger trembles until the end
A little later, Kreuzlingen were even four goals behind because there was little in the way of attack. In the final second, Croatian Peter Bubalo scored after another offensive mistake by the guests to make the score 14:12 for Altdorf.
When Bujar Ramosaj gave the big favorites Kreuzlingen a 16:14 lead after almost eight minutes in the second half with their fourth goal in a row, most spectators probably expected that the NLA representative would finally live up to his reputation. But far from it: seven minutes later Altdorf was ahead again with 18:16.
With this mortgage, the Thurgauers, where the boys received a lot of playing time, went into the final quarter of an hour. Ten minutes before the end of the game, Croatian Ivan Koncul let the outsiders still dream with his eighth goal to make it 19:18. Only now, with their backs to the wall, did a jolt go through the Kreuzlingen ranks. In the last two and a half minutes, the HSCK had the stamina and decided the game in their favor thanks to two saves from the strong keeper Haris Berisha (defense rate 50%).
Frauenfeld has no chance, women from Arbon are in great demand
SC Frauenfeld from the 1st league was in a losing battle in the round of 16 against GC Amicitia/Küsnacht from the NLB. The Frauenfeld team led 2-1 after just under four minutes, for the first, only and last time in this game. In the end, the score was 22:38 (11:21) in front of 93 spectators in Rüegerholz.
In the women’s cup, the NLB handball players from HC Arbon prevailed in the round of 16 away against Muotathal/Mythen-Shooters from the first league with 31:28 (16:16).
On Saturday at 6 p.m. Arbon’s NLB men will host the NLA club GC Amicitia Zurich. Also in cup action this weekend are Kreuzlingen’s NLA women and 1st league men. (mru/red)
