The paper coalition, despite the warnings that they will increase the chaos and mistrust – with an incomprehensible stubbornness messed up this mess and now they are pretending to “neither ate onions, nor smelled onions”. They put the two alternatives – the paper ballot and the machine – under a huge question mark, creating a chaotic process and, logically, the activation of vote traders. The return of the paper reopened this business.
This was stated by the co-chairman of the coalition “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria” Hristo Ivanov in the show “Face to Face”.
Ivanov called on the voters to join the “You Count” platform, through which the fairness of the vote will be monitored.
We are recruiting advocates of the vote in “You count” who will guarantee the fairness of the vote, regardless of which party they belong to. These are Bulgarian citizens who are guardians of democracy. Anyone who wants to dedicate a day and guarantee the right to live in a democratic country is welcome. It is a civic duty. I have done it and it is very nice. Looking at the faces of our fellow citizens, you see the great miracle of democracy. Bulgarian society speaks its will and you are part of it. These are elements that could compensate for the chaos, the PP-DB co-chairman also said.
According to him, the main responsibility for the return of the paper ballot rests with GERB and DPS.
I do not remove responsibility from Cornelia Ninova, who guarantees to remain in the leadership position. The parties that could stop this are GERB and DPS, he added.
Parliament is the heart of all government. If the heart is sick, the other organs cannot be in good condition. The other regulators fall into a state of expired mandates, of unfilled numbers. This is a dangerous situation, an element of a crisis separate from all other crises in the country and the region. There must be a regular, democratic, reformist government. We must restore parliamentary democracy.
Because of President Radev’s decision not to give the third mandate to “Democratic Bulgaria”, we are going to these elections. We would form a minority government that stood behind five main priorities. This is a tried and tested parliamentary form. GERB missed two years to clean house – see what the Magnitsky sanctions tell us. Each party and its voters decide the fate of individual figures. GERB did not find any opportunity to show that they understand the problem of systemic corruption. A problem that we inherited from their 12-year rule, Ivanov pointed out.
Coping with inflation requires strong institutions. There is no way to achieve them if there is no working justice. This economic growth means work for businesses and attracting foreign and domestic investment. This requires dealing with Bulgaria’s image problem. This cannot happen without reforming our prosecutor’s office. We will not deal with corruption and we will not enter Schengen, added Ivanov.
The association “Continuing the change – Democratic Bulgaria” shows that it is possible to find agreement, forms for joint work and build on what has been achieved. I don’t think we have compromised. Everything is done with the citizens in mind and they realize it. People who are not on the lists will have another job opportunity. There is a huge job opportunity for Bulgaria. The case for a new, European Bulgaria, for achieving a leap towards a European standard of living is something to which everyone can contribute. I am optimistic that it will work out and there will be regular management, commented Hristo Ivanov.
