“Navalni” with Hristo Grozev won the “Oscar” in the “Documentary” category. “We owe so much to Hristo Grozev – our Bulgarian. Christ, you risk everything to tell this story,” said the film’s director, Daniel Rohr.

Rohr thanked the family of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny for their courage.

“Thank you all! My husband is in jail simply because he told the truth. My husband is imprisoned just because he defends democracy. Alexey, I dream of the day when you will be free and our country will be free. Be strong, my love!” said Navalny’s wife, Yulia.

On Facebook, Teodor Ushev wrote that the moment is historic because it is the first time a Bulgarian has won an Oscar.

The documentary Navalny follows the revelations that the Bulgarian investigative journalist makes after Alexei Navalny is poisoned in 2020.
